MAY 21ST 2010

IN MY PARENTS’ BASEMENT, at Hiding Gallery, invites you to harken back to the liberation and impulse to create in the show's namesake. Like a sort of adolescent shaman practice, youth of recent generations have been known to retreat to the insulated confines of their subterranean free-for-alls, often establishing a
certain primal communion with the seeds of expressive ambition, while also finding a cerebral distance from the all too familiar domestic reality. These tendencies blossom in play, so often sprung from boredom and pubescent discontent, producing works of all mediums(perhaps most iconically in the formation of "the basement band").

This type of wild/wide-eyed and unfettered creative release is the
inspiration for the latest installation of Hiding Gallery's events.
Surrounded by wood paneled walls, the show collects an array of artists who continued to follow through
with the instinctive drive to produce works in any number of forms.
The spread of formats will include a Brion Gysin inspired Dream Machine installation by James Baljo and an animation premier by Joe Jagos featuring the music of Gardens, amidst other surprises.

-B Cuizon

Granted decent conditions, you'll also be welcomed to enjoy the
rooftop and perhaps even the perils of the sky-high trampoline!

NEXT SHOW MAY 21ST!

Hello everyone. We are preparing for our next show May21st! In order to re-create the days of slacking off in your parents’ basement making adolescent works of art, the gallery will be covered in wood panels and the roof trampoline will be re-opened for the summer. We have a lot of great artist lined up and will post soon what the deal is.

Farced movie nights at HIDING GALLERY

aFTER HOURS mock
Originally uploaded by HIDING GALLERY

FARCED presents movie nights at HIDING GALLERY.

For our first night we will be showing Martin Scorcese's 1985 classic black comedy/thriller film AFTER HOURS.

AFTER HOURS depicts a New Yorker, white collar worker Paul Hackett (Griffin Dunne), who experiences a hellish and seemingly endless night on the seedy streets of New York's SoHo village. Broke, frenzied and at his rope's end he is thrust into the increasingly upsetting and often outlandish lives of a variety of ensemble characters. A sequence of misfortunes, coupled with misunderstandings and tragedies threaten Paul's safety and sanity while he attempts to get back to his apartment, uptown.

Veggie sloppy joes. home made french fries and other surprise snacks will be served from 8-9 to accompany the reoccurring diner scenes in the film.

Movie starts at 9.

NEW OPENING

NO HANDS

FOR RELEASE

Following HIDING GALLERY'S grand opening September 18th 2009

of SELENITE, we are preparing for our second show titled NO HANDS.

The title NO HANDS is subject to definition by

the risks surrounding us, the risks we take and

everyday encounters.  Using the format and medium of photography,

NO HANDS is open for a broad range of interpretation.

We are currently taking submissions

There are 10-13 spots open upon consideration of work size and limitations.

We want to see anything you have involving risks.

Stupidity, triumph, life, death, long nights, or taboo behavior.

Whatever you think people should see as risk or you just want to be a bad influence, we want to share it.

If interested...

We are excited to hear from you.

Send us any portfolio or web based information you have. (blogs, website, etc)
